How the calculation works
How do I calculate GST on a price?
To add GST, multiply the base price by the rate and add the result. For example, ₹10,000 at 18% gives ₹1,800 of GST and a total of ₹11,800.
How do I remove GST from a GST-inclusive price?
Divide the inclusive price by 1 plus the rate. At 18%, ₹11,800 divided by 1.18 gives a base price of ₹10,000, so the GST in it is ₹1,800.
What are the main GST rates now?
Since 22 September 2025 most goods and services fall under 5% or 18%, with 40% for a short list of luxury and sin goods. Some items are nil-rated or carry special rates, so check the rate for your product or service by its HSN or SAC code.
When do I charge CGST and SGST, and when IGST?
For a sale within one state, GST splits equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST in a union territory). For a sale to another state, you charge IGST at the full rate.
The calculator does arithmetic only. The rate that applies to your product or service depends on its HSN or SAC classification and current notifications. Confirm it before invoicing.
